Samsung S8 Plus vs Iphone 7 Plus - Which is better?

Samsung is going to release its S8+ from 2nd May onwards and preorders have already begun. So what does it bring with itself over the previous S8 and how does it stand against IPhone 7+. To know that, let’s get into the core of S8+.

The upcoming Samsung S8+ is extremely stylish in design with its infinity bezel-less display of 6.2 inches having 84% screen to body ratio which is sure to live you mesmerized. Yes, S8+ uses almost entire front space for display. The size is bigger compared to S8 which has a display of 5.8 inches. It may be a bit difficult for the pockets to handle S8+ but Samsung has kept the screen width (73.4 mm) fine enough to be within the thumb's reach. Both these Samsung models beat IPhone 7+ which is only 5.5 inches in display and screen to body ratio of about only 68%. S8+ sports the Super Amoled display with pixel density of 529 ppi, slightly on lower side compared to S8 but still better than 401 ppi of IPhone 7+. IPhone 7+ has been designed with LED-backlit IPS LCD display.

Both the Samsung models have got Cornilla Glass 5 protection as well as glass backpanel of the same. Cornilla promises that its Glass 5 can survive a fall of 1.6 meters 80% of the times on rough and hard surfaces. That's a good protection considering the phone can fumble from the hands of user anytime so you need atleast a protection atleast up to the height of shoulder level. IPhone 7+ uses ion strengthened glass with oleophobic coating. Samsung S8+ is 173gm which is a bit heavier than S8 but still lighter than IPhone 7+ which weighs 188gm. Considering the grandiose build of S8+, the phone has been engineered very light by Samsung. Both S8 and S8+ are dust and water proof with IP68 certified. They can last safely for 30 minutes in a depth of 1.5 meters of water. That's amazing! Here also Samsung models get an upper hand compared to IPhone 7+ which is IP67 certified. It can last in water for 30 minutes considering a depth of 1 meter of water. But that's ok, how many times do you drop your phone in a pool.

So that was all about build and display. Let's talk about performance parameters. Apple has launched IPhone 7+ with A10 fusion processor with clock frequency of Quad-core 2.34 GHz (2x Hurricane + 2x Zephyr) and GPU PowerVR Series7XT Plus (six-core graphics). Both S8 and S8+ are exhibiting Exynos 8895 Octacore processor in EMEA countries while Samsung is launching US models with Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835. Exynos 8895 has scored higher in benchmarks than that of Snapdragon 835. The Exynos Octa-core run with clock frequency of (4x2.3 GHz and 4x1.7 GHz) while Snapdragon 835 has clock frequency of (4x2.35 GHz Kryo & 4x1.9 GHz Kryo). The EMEA Exynos models come packed with Mali-G71 MP20 while  US Snapdragon 835 models are geared with Adreno 540. Its tough to say yet which GPU is better.

IPhone 7+ features iOS 10. Apple's OS is famous for its performance while Samsung is competing it with the latest Android Nougat 7 in both of its models. Both the operating systems are enhanced with artificial intelligence features such as it can detect on its own which photos have night view, which ones have forest in it and sort the pics according to the best quality. If IPhone has got Siri then Samsung models are showcasing the new Bixby which can perform tasks similar to Siri. You can tap, type and talk to Bixby. You can focus on a landmark and it will give you all the information about it. Bixby is integrated with artificial intelligence, it learns with your daily routine in the way you use your phone and the more you use your phone, the better and more improvised results it will deliver you next time.

IPhone 7+ comes in three memory variants - 32 GB(₹ 72,000)/128 GB(₹ 82,000)/256 GB(₹ 92,000), each with 3 GB RAM. S8+ come with only one option - 64 GB inbuilt memory but expandable up to 256 GB with 4 GB RAM set to launch in India at ₹ 64,900. The US market price for S8+ is 954$ as on Amazon.com while the IPhone 7+ variants are priced in US at 798$, 814$ and 1070$ in the increasing of their memory capacity. S8 also has the same features as that of S8+ and is placed currently at ₹ 57,900. Considering the RAM horsepower and cost-effectiveness from prospective buyer, S8+ is a better buy for him.  Both Samsung models have a second slot which serves dual purpose of memory card and second sim. Apple's IPhone 7+ is lacking this. IPhone 7+ is powered with 2900 mAh while S8+ is packed with 3500 mAh. Considering the display size of S8+, the battery capacity should have been charged with more power from Samsung. S8 comes with 3000 mAh battery.

All the three phones come with 12 MP camera however Apple uses f/1.8 aperture lense while both Samsung models are laced with only f/1.7 size lense. The front camera of Apple is 7 MP compared to that of 8 MP in both Samsung models. Considering all the stats on the table, Samsung S8 and S8+ are almost similar in their features if you put aside their display size and pixel density differences. While from technical specifications and cost effectiveness point of view, S8+ scores better than IPhone 7+ however which phone is actually better in real world performance that can be decided only after S8+ is released into the market and users share their experience.
